There are so many benefits of seasonal eating. Eating local seasonal produce is not only better for you, but the environment too. As we come to the end of Spring and enter the beginning of Summer, May is when seasonal produce starts getting colourful; and you know what they say… a colourful plate is a healthy one. So with that in mind, start experimenting with seasonal recipes and why not take this opportunity to try something new? Rhubarb and Asparagus are well known for being at their best this month, but we’ve listed other fruit, vegetables and herbs in season during May in the UK.

Fruit:

  • Apricot
  • Nectarine

Vegetables:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Chicory
  • Cucumber
  • Lamb’s Lettuce
  • New Potatoes
  • Radish
  • Rhubarb
  • Samphire
  • Spinach
  • Spring greens

Herbs:

  • Chervil
  • Chives
  • Mint
  • Sorrel

Now knowing all the seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs for May, what do you plan on cooking? We can think of a few things, like this Simple Summer Salad with lots of leafy greens, radish, cucumber and red cabbage. Or perhaps a sweet Rhubarb crumble?

Don’t forget to share this with your friends too
